In the Charlestown Breachway(similar situation) we use bucktail jigs with pork rind and work the bottom of the channel. The weight of the jig depends on the strenth of the current. You want to be close to the bottom without getting hung up every cast. If theres hungry fish around they will hit. Just keep bouncing it off the bottom. If the Blues come around, a Roberts Ranger/Bounder is a great lure to use in a strong current. This lure has great action in a rip and the Blues can't resist. Its so much fun watching the Bluefish attack this lure on top! Get the chrome. Are you fishing the mouth of the Merrimack?
