I think that was a very well crafted automated "spambot" that was able to:
1) enter the necessary info for registration
2) pass the image verification item implemented 18 months ago (you need to read the alphanumeric code back)
3) reply to the confirmation email sent out...
Not easy to do... I'll also need to check some other stuff too....
