Usually crushed, always if it is schoolies. On trebles I generally crush em. If I got one uncrushed and its in the fish and won't come out easy, I will crush it before unhooking. Bucktails and other jigs and a shot at a bigun and I am likely to leave it barbed as long as possible. I agree, why if its unnescessary
