RE:Canal Report & Harrible
Herringless, you can get permits for various herring runs, usually at the town hall during the work week. Show up with a bucket and for a couple bucks, they'll give you anywhere from a half dozen to a dozen and sometimes more depending on what regulations are for the particular herring run. There are several runs in Middleboro but they have limited permits and tend to stop giving out herring earlier than other runs. I have a list of runs I received from Mass DMF http://striped-bass.com/regulation/massherring.shtml that gives some detail about where and who runs it. Even if you want the herring to fish dead later, get a bucket and ice them down...
Now to remove my live-herring mindset, top water plugs coming up as Harrible said, always a blast at the Canal!! Harrible has pointed me in the right direction many times in the past so I'm listening. My Canal fishing this time of year is limited. I only get down there a few times and with herring. I tend to get down there more come late June and into July with plugs going top water -
Hey Harrible, how goes the battle??
