Hi John.
Well my son is almost 2 now, and was brought on the boat for the first time at about 18 months. I always put him in a life jacket before we leave the dock. I typically only take him in the salt pond. He loves being onboard, he wants to grab the steering wheel and throttle control. You have to watch him every second though as he has no fear of water.
