That's very true, if possible keep several different patterns available and rigged up if you have the opportunity to run with different flies on different outfits.

One day small clousers may work great, and that is usually my go to fly, but the next it may be a bonito bunny, soft epoxy anchovie fly or the next a surf candy ...

... other times it's the leader too, I have had to scale down on diameter of leader - starting with 20# flouro in early morning, low-light conditions to scale down to 15 or even 12 if it's a high sun and the heavier leaders are not working.

And just be sure to have your fly in the water, you will never catch anything by waiting for the perfect shot, they move fast and often will pass the boat without you knowing.
