All depends what type of water you're fishing...Open surf, no current, calm night just cast, wait a few seconds and retrieve slowly. When the eel begins to loose life I add a bit of wieght. Deeper water you have to be a bit creative, I've got a great system but have to keep that bit of edge to myself, all I have to say is be creative, you have to get that eel down deep! A bit of current, cast up current and let the eel drift, add wieght if there is a good amount of current or deep water. Main thing you have to keep in mind is getting down to the strike zone. I use a Gamakatsu hook, size 8/0 live bait. The thicker shank of the hook adds the tiny bit of wieght that helps to get the eel down a bit more in skinny water. I use 60lb-80lb Floro...orvis Mirage along with spro swivels. Long leader helps in rocky water because its more abrasion resistant than the 65lb whiplash braid I'm using. Hope this helps....
