NARRAGANSETT, R.I. -- One person is missing after two boats collided Wednesday off the Rhode Island coast, the Coast Guard said.

Two people were thrown overboard around 12:30 p.m. when their 20-foot Boston Whaler was hit by a fishing boat and capsized about a half-mile off Point Judith, the Coast Guard said.

One man was rescued and taken to a hospital. His condition was not immediately known.

The Coast Guard dispatched a helicopter and dive teams to search for the second victim, Chief David Candee told News Channel 10. The victim could survive in the water for about 22 hours, Candee said.

Candee said he did not know if weather was a factor in the accident.
