For that box w/ rods, use threaded rod to keep plugs from sliding. I use threaded rod under the ceiling beams in my basement for plugs, made a retrieving pole from a dowel with a piece of copper pipe on the end. Insert a hook point into the copper pipe and lift it up to the rods.
