The moon is closer to the earth this cycle than it normally is, which means its gravitational pull on the water is about as high as it ever gets. Couple that with the NW winds pushing water out of the bays (has the same effect here, too--the CG posted an advisory for today) and you'll see rocks today you won't see again for awhile.
I would have loved to scout for jigs and sinkers today along the Canal ;-)
