The 440 yanmar is a good engine and should give you a kick ass cruise. But I don't think they make it in a common rail design yet...so you are going to get the smell and smoke. But they are less expensive.
I would like to go for a ride. The deck space on that boat was the largest I have have seen on any 26. (IMO that would make a GREAT boat for day charters....) I bet the fuel econ with a douprop I/O is unreal. (I know the simpleness of the straight inboard is attractive but I think with the increased reliability of todays newer IO's and the higher cost of fuel...you should see about a 15% in speed and a nice improvement in fuel econ with the I/O
One thing that concerned me with the straight inboard was the prop tunnel and the tiny rudder. The proptunnel is a good and it tends to make the boat track straighter but the tiny rudder esp at low speeds would be difficult to steer it I would think. That is another reason to go IO..Need to go for a ride before I would buy it.
