no respect? I agree! My very first rod of my own was ....Yes a 10' ugly stick. And yes I still use it from time to time. I have found I cast better with a stiffer rod so I dont tend to reach for the Ugly as often any more. Sorry guys but plain and simple its fishing. Certainly there are superior products out there as well as junk. I love fishing as much as anyone but I will be damned if I think a Ugly stick makes for a "newbie" or a Van staal makes a pro. I wish I could count how many threads there are on this site bitching about VS service or what have you.......Not to mention I know I cant afford one......not every one can. So does that make them as second rate fisherman?
