You may want to concentrate on a chunk rod first, if you enjoy chunking mostly......it can also serve as a jig-stick, they toss the same kinds of weight.
Use your uglystick for pluggin until you've selected a good feeling custom plug-rod. I suggest you fish with some people from this site, perhaps attend one of the legs (research the legs to get more information..[equal to a fling]),

Perhaps the people you meet or fish with will allow you to cast their set up a couple of times and you can see what feels good to you. Real life scenario is always better than waving an empty blank around a crowded shop.
They even have casting clinics from time to time...that's a great time to
feel what you need. I think they even happen at the Canal.
