Bill was my fly tying mentor. He look me under his wing and taught me much of what I know. As he was battling his second bout of cancer he called me one day and asked if I would take all his fly material. This was one of the hardest things I have every had to do. After I had removed all the material from his house, I would tie four to six flies of one pattern all slightly different. I would take them to him and we would discuss how well my copy was to his idea. We would talk until he got to tried to talk. We did his until he was to weak to continue.
I just tied the Rhody Flatwing for the site's fly swap and used some of his materials. I still tie his fly as well as another past great fly fisherman Ray Smith's white water witch.
I still have Bill's ashes sitting on my fly tying desk close to all his material. I never tie a fly without remember Bill.
I m certainly up honor his memory.
Great Idea.
Thanks
Eric
