No, you're right, you don't need to drive to know quality, however, you do need to drive (and usually for several years in various vehicles) to know quality in vehicles. Do you know what a HEMI is?
How do you qualify your ability to jusdge quality trucks? I can understand that if pops says that his 2003 Ram is his best truck ever but that's the only way I can see it. Even if he had a 2002 older style, that truck is lower in quality and longer in the tooth than either the Ford or the Chevy. Now Dodge's new 4.7 MagnumForceFeedbackCaddilacGive-A-Dog-a-Bone motor is probably all nice - but is it proven? Err, nope - that's a new motor. And if it's twice as good as their last major transaxle release of the early 90s, that means only 25% of them will crap out on ya...
So not trying to crunch stones on ya but I think there are a few people slightly more automotively inclined than you (even if I wussed out on changing my clutch on the Nissan today).
Bloo - I'm still a fan of the Yota for a 'lil truck... I'll be looking soon at the bigguns though and I'm still not sure if the Yota is up to that task as I'm thinking 2500, F250, yada, yada, yada
