"I feel Middleboro will be one of the richest communities around."

Mr. Macey, will you be moving to Middleboro to be part of this wealthy community? I realize that you are supporting it because it is good for your business, and I have no problem with you profiting from the casino. I just don't want to see a quiet little town like Middleboro becoming a dump.

There will definitely be a lot of money coming into the town, but I doubt anyone will confuse Middleboro with Dover, Newton or even Canton and Sharon. Residents will start putting their houses up for sale and getting out so they don't have to deal with all of the stuff that comes along with the endless riches a casino brings. When the market is flooded with housing inventory, the prices will go down and the lower prices will bring lower income buyers. Look what has happened in towns like Randolph when houses became too affordable. Crime went through the roof. As for this money helping the town out of a deficit, do you think this is really going be the answer? If the town is mismanaging their finances now, why would it get better with the casino? It will still be mismanaged. It's like a gambler who goes out and blows his paycheck at the track, then goes home and empties the savings account. Then, he goes back to the track and blows the rest of his money. Having more money to spend doesn't make you any smarter. I'm sure the town will find a way to waste this money on things that will not help the residents.
