You can do other things like drag a 5 gallon bucket, trolling for bass with lures like tubes requires a very slow troll around 1.8 to 2 mph you can go faster trolling bunker spoons, jigs or umbrella rigs but only up to maybe 3 mph. The fish will tell you how fast but it takes some practice. I like leadcore better than wire but if the fish are deeper than 40 ft you will need wire. A good fishfinder will tell what depth the fish are at alot of times they are not right on the bottom. We use 113 penns and you can get 100 yards of leadcore plus backing on it. It is also easier to fish with than wire.
