I got a ticket in North Kingstown a few years back for that.He pulled me over a week before xmas,Pregnant wife in passenger seat,I did the same was past stop line on yellow and deep in the intersection on red.Did the whole nice guy sir thing.What a bunch of crap got me nowhere but traffic court.I was hoping a car would hit him on his way back to his car.Rookie kid was younger than me.I beleive at that point it's in the officers hands.You lucked out and had a good guy.
