It's showtime for fishermen in Rhode Island as the two largest fishing groups in the state present their winter shows and seminars.

Charley Soares
and Mike Laptew
return with two new shows for the East Bay Anglers Jan. 14 at Barrington High School, and Bob Sampson
and Mitch Chagnon
will present two striper-fishing programs for the Rhode Island Saltwater Anglers Association Jan. 20 at Coventry High.

Soares is an award-winning writer whose work appears in The Fisherman and On The Water magazines. He's also a full-time fishing guide with an intimate knowledge of the waters of Rhode Island and southern Massachusetts. His show, entitled "Fish Candy!", will focus on what fish eat in our waters and how to use that information to catch more. He'll also explain how to find, catch and use bait to catch trophy fish.

Laptew, known as "The Diving Fisherman," will offer an underwater tour showing how fish feed. He has some tremendous new footage from his latest video -- more on that below -- of striped bass, fluke, tuna, and other gamefish that will help you catch more of them.

The East Bay Anglers show is scheduled to start Jan. 14 at 6 p.m. at Barrington High. Tickets cost $10 each and are available by sending a check with a self-addressed, stamped envelope to East Bay Anglers, Box 293, Barrington, R.I. 02806-0293.
