Palomar and uni - tied as needed. If the two pieces that go through the hook eye on the Palomar cross, I cut and retie so they are parallel. I think another common mistake is to not leave enough tag end. I like to be able to put a wrap or two around my hand. If I tie a snap, I'll attach it to a plug first if possible to get a better pull. As was already said, if you don't use enough spit, you'll burn the line - you can actually feel it.
