Mike P, my larger point is to the actual Winning of them,
the Lombardi's and the ring that goes with it, and of course
the TITLE, World Champion.
I respectfully disagree, and say that to a man, that they wouldn't trade a single trophy for this trophy. They look at each season, each team, and each year individually. Each Trophy is special and meaningful within the context of that team, those players, and that specific game. Just as this year, they would not want this Lombardi, because ~~CLEARLY~~ they did not earn it, they did not play football well enough to win the SB, and the better team ~that day~ DID win the ultimate prize.
Professional atheletes, for the most part, have a respect for the game and their opponent that we as fans could not begin to grasp. Sure we can remember what it was like to win City Championships in our various sports, we could have family members that compete on a very high level; however, to be in that place and in their shoes at the highest level of performance that their sport allows is too far a reach for us as sports laeity. And I only offer what i've heard them say. Each trophy is unique, in and of itself.............and to trade one for the other would mean to replace something fought for and well-earned for something undeserved and gained ill-gottenly.
I wholeheartedly contend that the 19-0 garbage means more to us, and the stroytellers, and the media pundits than it does to the participants. It has to be compartementalized that way to maintain a healthy psyche and to be able to put this one "behind" them so they can approach next year with a "fresh set of downs"; otherwise, this game would eat them alive from the inside out and the ability to move forward from either GREAT achievement or CATOSTROPHIC disappointment would handicap and dismantle thier future endeavors.
It is essential to be able to remove oneself from the past ~be it the previous INT/CMPL, prior series of downs/TD's, the first half, the last post season, etc.~ in order to maintain focus, drive, and performance at the highest levels of execution. To do so with the utmost of effeciency, one has to participate within each moment.............play the play that is called "until the whistle blows". Keeping that mindset in mind, i doan think that for a minute that they would trade one for the other, that this is only looked upon as what it was ~a missed opportunity for greatness and a championship that has eluded them, yet again!
