Here's what I would do Plum
Go with the 704Z on a 10'. Its an affordable dependable reel that'll last you many years if you take care of it ......and on a 10' rod you'll get the distance you need.
If you think your ready to try bait casters the 320 GTI not a surf reel (not whats its intented for) Put the 6500 on a 9' surf rod (that can handel 1-3oz) and you'll have your self a nice set up. 20# throwing 2oz would be safe to start and will reduce backlashes.
What ever you do, don't make it harder then it needs to be.
