Hey Monkey,
Up until last year I used a 15' Seacraft fiberglass runabout with a 1965 Evinrude 75 horse V4. Boat was so fast that I put a stress crack in the hull perpendicular to the keel, under the waterline.
Believe it or not, this was the engine that was sold with this boat in 1965.
Save your money, buy a used engine and don't go too cheap, unless you're as good a mechanic as the rest of us on the site think that we are.
On the other hand, there's something starngely theraputic for me about working on my boat; its a good thing, too.
