I can't imaging anyone renting an outboard. The loss is too great. The deposit whould have to be so big as to cover the entire cost. Disputes would be a regular thing....just a bad business idea. Rentals would tend to get beat on.
Buy a used motor and have it checked out or possibly buy a used motor from a dealer , they usually go over them pretty good and might warrenty/service it as well.
a used 35 or 40 should not break the bank.
