Question Tins - attaching to line

I've understood that split rings should be used to attach tins to your line or leader. That tying direct is a no-no. And that even snaps take a beating with tins.
However, some tins like the ones by Point Jude Joe appear to have an embedded steel barrel at the hole or an embedded wire at the tip. What is the best form of attachment for these types, where wear doesn't seem as much of an issue? How do you attach the others where wear is an issue? Some split rings spread open when putting them on some of the thicker tins.
