This thread kind of reminds me of golfing with custom clubs vs knock offs. In the end it's the golfer/fisherman that makes the swing or catches the fish. A good golfer is a good golfer regardless of the clubs and same with fishing. With that said there are some sweet custom clubs and rods out there that I feel can make a big difference in the right hands. Oh by the way I'm a 14 handicap with Ping clones and I fish a 8' Ugly Stick with Penn spinning reel and could use all the help I can get with it. Still learning all the different types of retrieves, rigs, etc. Someday I'll invest the dough when I have it. Until then I enjoy my time on the course or the water and appreciate what I have.
