I had the same problem on my upstairs pc running xpsp2.There was a download from ms that fixed the problem.It took hours to discover this download.
I'm still staying at my dad's but I'm gonna head back home next Monday.I saved the download just in case.If you haven't fixed the issue by then I'll pm you the fix number.
