John....scotts is a good brand of course but I think tends to be on the more expensive side. Your best bet is to find a brand such as Agway, etc.... Try choosing a "mix" that best suits your needs, most companies carry different mixes such as "sun-shade", "high traffic" and so on.....they should all have labels stating approximate germination times, types of grass included in the mix (again pick one best suiting your needs) , and coverage applications (meaning it may take twice as much of one variety to cover the same amount of area as another variety, do to the way it grows......thus also affecting total cost)
Try comparing the contents of two brands of similar mix to see what your best deal is......though stores should have this years crop of seed.....make sure the dates are good as age certainly does affect % of germination..
