I worked for non-union printing companies while other people I knew worked for unionized ones.
No union means you get a raise only if you get promoted or the company really has a good year.
If the job market was tight, regardless of thier profit - they figured they had you by the short ones, so you got nothing.
If the overall economy was average - then it meant that they would claim that did not make any money so you got nothing.
I came to realize that no union pretty much means you get the annual nothing. If you got two raises in five years - you were lucky. How many years can a person not get a raise and expect to move ahead in life?
