Hey Bill...long time no see.

I saw this thread and figured I would chime in here. People that know me (& the cheif Bottle washer can more than confirm this), know that I am famous for what most refer to as "snoring". One year when at the T-bird hotel in Yarmouth for Tri-State that people in neighboring rooms made complaints. Another time I fell asleep driving on 95 heading to South County and when I woke up (by the police sirens) I had gone almost 20 miles and has pretty much stopped traffic with the swerving etc. I can be about as bad as it gets.

Snoring is nasal and in most cases not that loud. There are many many products to help those that snore reduce or eliminate the issue. Most people that mention or complain about snoring are really talking about noise that comes from "Sleep Apnea". The easy way to tell the difference is that when "snoring" noise comes from the nose and "Apnea noise comes from the mouth or the mouth and nose.

I was diagnosed with chronic obstructive sleep apnea about 20 years ago and have a very serious case. Sleep Apnea has over 36 different causes/types which is why there is so much confusion when those with the condition talk and find out they have conflicting information. Sleep Apnea is one of the most researched conditions in American Medicine today. It is thought that as many as 6 out of 10 American Males have some level of this condition. Mild cases are just a "PIA" for the partner sleeping next to you but medium and severe cases that are left untreated can lead to heart, lung and many other respiratory problems along with fatigue effects on the body and the ever present falling asleep in "unusual" places. Anyone that has a history of "snoring" or being told that they stop breating in their sleep should get a sleep study. I know more people that have gotten treatment and have completely changed their lives.

I was always told by all except my doctor that I lost weight it would get better. A few years ago I lost almost 60 pounds (35 are back) and my Apnea actually got worse. There is a lot of mis information and even more confusing information running around. Trust no one but your own doctor with you particular case as the different types of Apnea can be very different when it comes to risk and treatments.

I use a bi-pap machine and since that time on route 95 am vigilant with it. I am straight up afraid to die, not to mention I don;t want to end up like many sleeping in a different room that my significant other becasue they cna;t rest with my "snoring". Many many heart attacks are the result of a weak heart from Apnea. Many people suffer needlessly and the relationship effects can be brutal.

Seriously, if anyone reading this thread even thinks thy might have Apnea, go get a sleep study and give yourself a break.

Off the soap bos for a bit
