XP geek question

My windows is corrupted and is spitting out intermittent errors. I believe I have a problem on my motherboard and got a new board to change it.

Here's the question...After the board is replaced I'm told I can boot from the xp cd and repair windows without losing or having to re-load programs. Anyone ever done this before successfully or am I in for another week of software reloading?

I'm going to ghost everything booting directly off the Ghost disk...as a fail safe in case the reinstall doesnt work so I can put it back again.
