From "Fishes of the Gulf of Maine" - common nickname for blue runner is Yellow Jack.
Coloration is often a tough way to tell fish species apart. I caught a banded rudderfish the other day that had zero stripes, just a light band through the eye. Put a hook in its back and tried live-lining it to bluefish, and when I brought it back in it had stripes like a zebra. Amazing how they can do that.
Seems to be a banner year for these "occasional late-summer visitors."
