Don't use a 60 mm guide. That is way overkill. The 40 is fine for the first guide and that reel.
I think the original 40 through 12 is a good layout. You may need to go with a 16 tip since the 12 tips are only available in a limited number of tube sizes while the 16 is available in many more tube sizes. I often use a 16 tip with a 12 last guide.

I look at not only the size of the guides but the number and locations as far as recovery. I also do not want to have to string and worry about lots of guides while fishing. So there is a trade off between the number and size.

The concept people use lots of small guides. They cut down the size of the stripper guide and they push it way out.
