I'm in!
As an old Cape guy who drove the beaches from the 70s to 2003, I can attest to the amount of beach we once had and now have.
I, too, am sick and tired of the Plover lovers. F the birds. Who gives a flying crap about stupid birds protected by a stupid ruling. Think about the ridiculousness of the following:
They close 40 miles of beach and prevent hundreds if not thousands of tax paying citizens from access because of a small bird that contributes nothing to the ecology of the region except being there. Not a food source (although they taste like chicken) except for the birds of prey and the coyotes. No one looks for them except the bird lovers and no one cares if there are more or less of them except those who are being paid by the Feds to count them.
So here is the question:
In these times of economic downturn, why are our tax dollars being wasted on some stupid birds? Let's write the elected congressmen and senators and tell them to stop wasting our money counting birds and generate some revenue by opening the beaches to the recs and keeping them open.
At the same time, let's institute a bounty on the seals. Say $20 for every dead seal turned in. If you are unemployed you get a free license to kill seals instead of unemployment. I bet a lot of guys would do it.
