we used to make our own big wheels out of tricycles. tonka trucks that were made from real metal. One of the best toys I remember having when I was a kid was probably about a 4-6 yard pile of sand that my Dad dropped in the yard one day. took about a year to move it with the tonkas. matchbox or Hot wheels when they first started coming out. wish i had those now.
Another toy if you want to call it a toy were roof shingles. had this old shack that had been torn down. whoever tore it down left a huge pile of shingles. boy could those things fly a long way, also used to play war using specially crafted sticks for guns, and not to mention the actual rock fights with kids from another neighborhood. ahhh the good ol days
