Tell you what---most of the fans outside of New England are scratching their heads wondering why this guy isn't in Cooperstown already. Even most Yankee fans think that he belongs there.
He has 400 fewer career RBI than Winfield, who's in the Hall, in 6 fewer seasons, and the guy was a lock for 100+ RBI a year in his prime. If you compare his stats to Winfield's, and adjust them for the 6 more years Winfield played, they're comparable.
The guy made some serious enemies among the writers, though.
