Hi I'm Saltheart. real name is Mike . In the non fishing world , I'm an Engineer. Once had my own company making space reentry materials. Now I work for a big company in the area.
I was born in , live in and hope to die in RI (but not too soon). Grew up in central falls and cumberland. still live in Cumberland.
I fished southern RI for about 25 years and now , for the last five , fish mostly at the Dicth but still fish RI early and late in the season. I have always been a 95% surf fisherman. Smokey and I fish together every week at least once and more when time allows. I have had a sailboat for 21 years now but only troll off the back when there is no wind. Sailed everything from New Haven to Nantucket in my Bristol 22. Probably have to sell it this year do to health concerns.
I consider myself an expert surffisherman. Know every inch of the RI coast and some parts of MA. Always loved fishing from when I was a kid doing freshwater myself and going to the saltwater with my Portogee uncles. caught a cod fish off the west wall back in about 1965! never had use for stripers when i was young but got hooked on chasing them in 77 and now that's all i really target. fish catch and release about 99%. kept about 3 fish in the last three years.
I love the ocean. fishing , sailing , digging for clams or just sitting on the beach. I feel alive when I breath ocean air.
I like to do handcrafts. Been making jewelry from silver and goldsmithing to cutting and setting stones. started making custom rods and love to do the thread art. Built the addition on my house myself including a full bathroom. always liked working with my hands. Had an auto repair business back when i was in graduate school. Also like to cook but have to watch what i eat lately so that puts a damper on gourmet cooking.
I'm single but attached. No kids but love them. Love dogs and especially cats. Always had one or the other or both. In fact I like almost all animals and almost all people.
Anyway , that's the story of my life.
