I prefer to weight em after I seal em.It has nothing to do with water infiltration.I use a five or ten minute epoxy to set the weight, then I will file/sand it down.I have found when I heat the wood to seal it it does things like raise or sink the weight amiking it uneven.Then I have to go through the process of making it neat again.
