I love this idea. In the current era of ratings wars, give another newspaper/tv station fuel to raise their reader/viewer ratings.
(Specify that the "other" story was skewed and twisted out of context, and you want to set the record straight.)
Above all else, make sure that you convey an air of "humbleness".
That may get them to push "them" as the bad guys and you as the "victim".
