Actually, that could just be someone being careful. One of the regulars at Montauk, in his 70's, wore a bike helmet while rock hopping on the south side.

Some 20 years ago, we got down to be beach, only to find the 4 wheel drive access closed and cops everywhere. We find out some drunken idiot drove a station wagon (one of those big late 70's models) half a mile down the access road and then proceeded to pass out
. It took 2 wreckers to get him out (the first one got stuck also
).
