Sure it can happen. Why not? No matter what you are using it will eventually degrade from regular wear and tear. Where do you draw the line between 'user error' and natural degradation of the braid?

Just this past weekend I was using my buddy's outfit which had a sinker slide right on the braid (actually a snap swivel used as a sinker slide). I looked at it and said "hey looks kinda frayed." Next cast, snapola! This rig had lasted around 4 trips or so without snapping. I bet if I had hooked a nice sized fish the line would have parted right there. We were actually after sturgeon so I'm sure the line would have broke.

But I guess if you had completely fresh line and perfect knots and such, it's very unlikely the fish could snap your line. Something else would probably give first - busted reel, snapped rod, bent/pulled hook.
