I've never broken braid line, not even in the canal. I always use a leader (appropriate to the braid) and have had leader fail or be cut off (especially in the canal).

I was talking to Scott (Salty Bugger) and we were discussing this at the MSBA show and he and I had talked about the fact that with braided lines, other parts of the tackle seem to be failing more often, lately you hear a lot about split rings straightening out.

With modern tackle being so strong (graphite rods, braided lines, XXX hooks, etc.) people are able to put so much more pressure on the fish than they could years ago...but SOMETHING has to give..and it seems it's the split rings.

All tackle as a weak link somewhere...what's next?
