Blackfish - or tautog to you mainlanders - also known as tittog to the Sand People to our east...

Light tackle sight-fishing for blackfish is my favorite pursuit of the year - a 10#+ white chinner on light tackle is pretty sporty and will change your attitude about them forever.

To me they're the prime rib of the sea - only fresh grouper comes close and that's still in second place to Tautoga onitis in my opinion...

Besides, you really have to admire a fish tough enough to eat mussels and then s**t the shells...

"There is no royal road to this heavy surf-fishing. With all the appliances for comfort experience can suggest, there is a certain amount of hard work to be done and exposure to be bourne as a part of the price of success." From "Striped Bass," Scribner's Magazine, 1881.
