I remember right our Memorial Day weekend was their Queens Birth-day weekend. There was a unwritten rule that one packed out only
garbage so food, booze and pot was regularly distributed among those who remained. The pot was given out as the Canucks did not
want to take it back home past customs. Good habit.
We could count on some returning year after year. I have a thousand
slides in my basement, but even if I could find them I could not get
them up on this site. Talk about the good old days fishing, God there
was something primordal about tipping over the headwall and doing
turns in a snow bowl that very few even saw. I mention headwall here with a note of caution, we were reasonably insane to do it.
I remember a chunk of ice as large as a pullman train break off the
headwall and slide all the way down to settle on the level at the bottom pushing a ridge of snow six feet high in front of it. One year
all the shelters were covered up to their roof and walkways cut down
to the shelter platform. Needless to say the only hanky panky that year took place on a cold wood rood. How is it today???
Enjoy your youth boys, it goes past damned fast so have those crazy
memories to enjoy..

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS! What a read! I live for stories like that and you just made my day. The best times with my friends and family have either been on the water(sailing, fishing, kayaking, rafting) or in the mountains. I've hiked all over the White and Green Mountains and have a ton of memories. I'm turning 40 next month and plan on taking my 4 year old son up to one of the NH state camps this summer to get him started on his experiences. He's already my little fishing buddy now I'll work on getting him to be my camping and hiking buddy too. I got to get in a little better shape though, who am I kidding a lot better shape!
