The hard way. The first thing I do is cut the wood to size, been using pine dowels and cedar 2x2"s. Then I drill the thru wire hole with a 12" 1/8" bit. I use 2 3" 3/16" wood screws in both sides, one screw in my drill chuck and the other in a hole in the wall, lock down the drill with a vise and instant lathe. It's not the best or safest lathe, but it works. I try to cut or shave as much wood as possible with saws, sanding disk and planer. I try to drill the thru hole right up the middle, dont always work, if it's a little off center we got a pikie or surfster blank, if it's way off center danny or darter, when it is straight up the middle we have a polaris, pencil, bottle, neddlefish blank. I also dont use conventional lathe tools, I had an old Stanley planer, the one with "little teeth", broke the blade in 2 and hold it with a glove, works pretty fast.
I wana get a lathe and airbrush and belt sander and jig saw, but I'm affaird I'll lose interest after a while and wont use the equipment too much. BTDT with too many hobbies.
