Spygate was both a political and personal crusade for Spector. He's been an Eagles season ticket holder for years and even goes (or used to go) on a sports radio show in Philly about the Eagles. Politically, he made a big deal about it because Philly is a sports crazed town and he knew it would be something that would get him in good with the voters.

Like 90% of all politicians, he doesn't do anything unless it improves his own situation.
