FF - I've actually never fished it (Oregon) so I can't be certain. I know that it is pretty close to the flats.

My biggest problem with most of those South Cape spots are that I don't know the street names. I can recognize the streets during the day and at night, I wind up driving and turning around when I realize that I screwed up... and eventually find the spot :P

The flats are wadeable, best at low tides, and they do run out pretty far, almost a half mile, but it can be tough to learn exactly where to wade. You need to walk a bit to the right from the lot to get on the edge of the flats. The flats run out in a slight left bend from the beach where it starts off wide and then narrows towards the end, where it drops off quick. Quick enough where you can get into to trouble if you are not careful. This is also a location where you should have good, safe wading equipment INCLUDING WADER BELT.

Also, if you get into one of the spectacular bluefish blitzes known to that area, you need to be real careful when releasing the fish. Picture a rabid 6 pund blue going bezerk on the end of your Ranger or Multi-trebbled Chrome Popper. You have water past your belt line, your rod tucked under your arm, your surfbag over your shoulder and that P'oed blue thrashing away. You need to be real carefull removing that fish. Have your pliers readily handy (as well as a backup set)

Many of us MSBA folks remember a certain past club president nearly loose a thumb PERMENANTLY to a blue that jumped up as he was removing the hook. Literaly, he almost lost his thumb due to infection and such...

FlyFisher, that place is a true blast but it can really be hairy unless you are there with people that have fished it before or you take a very strong, cautious approach....

Good luck,

John
