I leave on all the time, I use one of them battery jump packs sao not to kill my batterys. It has a cig lighter plug, and if it gets low i just plug into boats plug.
Also I have a drain and I drain some water from time to time and add fresh water to keep them cool, water temp get warm after a while which will start killing bait also.
