I think he might be thinking of the SMB 108 3M, the longest "live bait" model in S-glass.
I'm not a big fan of glass any more, as I think that the GSB line from Lami is plenty durable, as are some of the stronger XRA blanks like the 1205 and 126 1MH. 90% or more of the guys who rock-hop at tough places like Montauk use the GSB Lamis (usually the 120 1M), and I think that style of fishing is more abusive to rods than jetty fishing--just my two cents.
I'm 56 years old and more than a hour of casting with a SB 121 3M really wears on me, and I can't ever picture myself using even an S-glass 11-1/2 footer again.
