Chef - I had this discussion with someone recently, but we didn't draw a concrete conclusion. We guessed that "cow" was a reference to livestock rather than huge bass, that at one time there may have been a pier there given its proximity to the mainland. I'll be interested to hear the voice of authority on this issue.
